Rewire the Response

The Sunday Shift: The One Rule That Changes Everything

You cannot regulate a child from a dysregulated state.

Let’s cut right to the core.

Before we dive into complex strategies or behavioral frameworks, I want to give you the single realization or the one rule that changed everything for me as an Educational Specialist and as a parent:

You cannot regulate a child from a dysregulated state.

That's it. That is the foundation of everything I teach.

If you're reading this after a truly exhausting weekend—if your hands are still shaking from the last meltdown, or if you're currently hiding in the bathroom scrolling just to catch your breath—I see you. Modern parents and educators carry an unprecedented load. But I want you to know this: the fact that you are here, reading this, and searching for a better way, means you are already doing something different.

Here is your Sunday Shift for the week:

This week isn't about overhauling your entire approach. It's about one small, practical step rooted in nervous system science, not behavior modification.

The Meltdown Funnel Guide

  1. Save this visual reminder. Take a screenshot and save it on your phone, or place it somewhere you'll see it tomorrow (the fridge, the bathroom mirror, your car dashboard).

  2. The pause. The next time things escalate, force yourself to glance at that reminder BEFORE you respond.

That's it. There is absolutely no pressure to be perfect here. Just aim for that one small shift.

Over the next few weeks, I'm going to send you more tools, strategies, and frameworks built on this exact system. But for now, start with the pause. I'll be right here.

Take care,

Dr. David
